Who is Orthodontist ?

Orthodontists are professionals specialized in performing dental procedures which affect teeth’s functionality. They perform a variety of teeth treatments including mounting dental brackets, fixing malocclusion and guiding facial development. The procedures have both an esthetic and a functional compound and are considered more complicated and time consuming that the ones performed in the dentist’s office.

Orthodontists are usually associated with braces. While straightening crooked teeth with braces is probably the most common procedure performed by orthodontists, they do much more than that:

They diagnose jaw and dental problems and devise appropriate treatment for them
They fit dental appliances meant to realign patient’s teeth, correct teeth misplacement, alter the relationship between teeth and jaws
They monitor and adjust dental appliances regularly in order to obtain best results, They design and make different specific appliances (labial and lingual arch wires, maintainers and retainers) to treat patient’s teeth and/or jaw problems.

Orthodontists can work along with other dental specialists to diagnose teeth problems using X-rays and plaster molds of the patient’s teeth. Some orthodontists like to do these procedures all by themselves, especially if they are appropriately trained. Orthodontists also work with dental surgeons for cross interventions and treatments which need both specialists.

Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontic Treatment

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that specializes in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities. The technical term for these problems is malocclusion, which means bad bite. The practice of orthodontics requires professional skill in the design, application and control of corrective appliances, such as braces, to bring teeth, lips, and jaws into proper alignment and to achieve facial balance.

Orthodontic treatment can improve your dental health and change your facial appearance for the better, and it can boost your self-esteem. It can provide you with the chance to participate in improving the way you look. Patients often feel more self-confident even before treatment is completed. Get in Touch

White Fillings

White Fillings @ YOUR Smile Dental Care

White or tooth coloured fillings provide a healthier, more natural alternative to traditional silver amalgam fillings. They also allow for a minimally invasive restoration meaning more of your natural tooth can be preserved.

White filings can be used in the front or the back of the mouth. They are the ideal, natural-looking way, to restore strength and function to damaged teeth. Your dentist can build up cracked or chipped teeth with a white filing to restore each tooth to its original look and feel or, it can be used to close gaps, reshape uneven or short teeth and filling cavities caused by tooth decay.

At YOUR Smile Dental Care our white fillings are available in a wide range of shades and opacities. Our team of highly trained dental professionals are able to build up white fillings through a complex ‘layering technique’ to create perfect, yet invisible, restorations that blend into the rest of YOUR Smile.

A procedure for minor dental corrections, white fillings offer a quick and affordable way to correct a variety of dental situations such as:

  • Cracks
  • Chips
  • Closing gaps between teeth
  • Reshaping short or uneven teeth
  • Tooth decay and the filling of cavities
  • Discoloration
  • Replace metal or amalgam fillings

Endodontics

Endodontics

Endodontics (also known as Root Canal Treatment) is needed when the dental pulp inside of your tooth becomes inflammed or infected. This is often caused by tooth decay and is unlikely to go away on its own. This infection is likely to spread to your other teeth and gums if left untreated, so it is of upmost importance to receive root canal treatment before more damage is caused. Get in Touch

Oral Surgery

Oral Surgery

The majority of patients need Oral Surgery due to impacted wisdom teeth. Wisdom teeth are the last set of teeth to develop in the mouth, and so sometimes these teeth emerge from the gum line but the jaw is not quite large enough to allow room for them.

More often, one or more of these wisdom teeth fail to emerge in proper alignment or fails to fully emerge through the gum line and becomes entrapped or “impacted” between the jawbone and the gum tissue. Impacted wisdom teeth can result in swelling, pain, and infection of the gum tissue surrounding the wisdom teeth. In addition, impacted wisdom teeth can cause permanent damage to nearby teeth, gums, and bone and can sometimes lead to the formation of cysts or tumors that can destroy sections of the jaw. It is for this reason that we therefore recommend that our patients have their impacted wisdom teeth surgically removed.

It’s not just wisdom teeth that sometimes become impacted and need to be removed. Other teeth, such as the cuspids and the bicuspids can become impacted and can cause the same types of problems described with impacted wisdom teeth. Get in Touch

Dental Implant

Dental Implant

The fear of losing our teeth is something many of us experience. Today however, tooth loss does not have to be a permanent problem. Our dental implant system provides a safe and reliable method for replacing teeth, whether you have lost one, several or all of them. Your new teeth look and feel natural, and allow you to live, laugh and enjoy life with total confidence.

Dental implants are usually the best solution for permanently replacing one or more teeth as they are designed to completely replace your old tooth – at both a root and crown level. The root of a dental implant called an abutment, and is made of a biocompatible metal known as ‘titanium’ – which is very strong and is accepted by your body like no other metal. The abutment is placed into the gum by a dentist gently places into your jaw to form a secure foundation, whilst the top part of your dental implant is a ceramic crown that provides a natural-looking new tooth. Once your crown is fitted, no one will know you have a dental implant unless you tell them!

Dental implants are ideal for people in good oral health who have lost one or more teeth. We know how confidence about your teeth can affect how you feel about yourself, both personally and professionally. Perhaps you hide your smile because of spaces due to missing teeth. Maybe your dentures don’t feel secure. Perhaps you have difficulty chewing. If you would like to smile, speak and eat again with confidence, there is good news!

Dental Implants have proven to be the answer to many patients’ dental problems. By replacing just one tooth in your mouth, they enable the restoration of a natural smile, improving patient comfort and confidence. Dental implants are so natural-looking and feeling, you may forget you ever lost a tooth.

What can Dental Implants do?

  • Replace one or more teeth without affecting bordering teeth.
  • Support a bridge and eliminate the need for a removable partial denture.
  • Provide support for a denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

Who can have Dental Implants?
We will carry out a thorough examination taking appropriate x-rays, to see if your case is suitable. It can be dependent on the condition of the bone in the area of the planned implants. Only very rarely is there not enough bone or it is not healthy enough and therefore it may not be possible to proceed without additional treatment.

What does the treatment involve?
Placing of the implants is carried out at the surgery, involving a simple operation under a normal local anesthesia. The after effects are similar to having a tooth extracted i.e. you may feel mild discomfort due to the normal healing processes.

How successful is the treatment?
Under proper conditions, such as placement by a dentist and diligent patient maintenance, implants can last a lifetime. Long-term studies continue to show improving success rates for implants. Being implanted into the bone, as with your natural teeth, implants require thorough cleaning. Cleaning around the implants is no more difficult than cleaning your natural teeth and we will strongly advise all patients to see the dental hygienist on a regular basis to maintain the healthy status of the implant and the rest of the teeth and gums. Get in Touch
